Summer Fun Crookston

Keeping kids entertained over the summer is no easy task. Our real estate agents know there are plenty of exciting and enriching activities for kids to enjoy near our Crookston homes for sale. Use the activities listed below to start planning your kids' summer outings.

  • Camp at the Central Park Campground - 801 Fisher Avenue, Crookston, MN 56716
Crookston's Central Park Campground boasts 19 campsites on the shores of the Red Lake River, making it easy to treat yourself to a fun overnight excursion this summer. In addition to communal picnic tables and a fire pit, each campsite has sewer and water hookups and electrical hookups with up to 50 amps of power. You can rent one of the smaller campsites for $35 a night or upgrade to one of the larger ones for $40 a night. If you also need a tent, you can rent one for an extra $20 per night.

  • Go Fishing in Red Lake River - 801 Fisher Avenue, Crookston, MN 56716
If your kids aren't interested in camping, they can still enjoy a day trip fishing at the Red Lake River. There are many places along the riverbank where you can sit down and cast a line, including the fishing pier at the Central Park Campground. The water is full of interesting-looking fish species like walleye, channel catfish, and northern pike. To make the trip even more exciting, try offering a prize to the person who catches the largest fish, the most fish, or the highest number of different fish species. Be sure to purchase a fishing permit and review all applicable regulations before you head out.

  • Visit the Crookston Splash Park - 124 N Broadway, Crookston, MN 56716
Taking your kids to the Crookston Splash Park is a great way to help them keep cool and stay active during the long summer break. Suitable for all ages, the space includes many gentle fountains and interactive water features as well as benches, a drinking fountain, and a covered pavilion with a picnic bench underneath it. There's a regular playground right next to the splash park, too, giving kids even more ways to have fun in the sun.

  • Tour the Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge - 17788 349th Street SE, Erskine, MN 56535
Located about a dozen miles east of Crookston proper, the 24,000-acre Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge is home to the largest prairie and wetland restoration initiative in American history. Visitors can explore part of the refuge on two short walking trails that look out over the beautiful, untamed terrain. This is a great place for young nature lovers to experience the majesty of an untouched landscape, and budding shutterbugs will find plenty of photo opportunities too. Look closely for a chance to spot more than 70 species of birds, including sandhill cranes, sandpipers, and woodland grouse.

  • Visit the Polk County Historical Museum - 719 E Robert Street, Crookston, MN 56716
The Polk County Historical Museum chronicles the history of Polk County and its residents with exhibits, artifacts, and plenty of fascinating facts. The institution primarily focuses on the region's early agricultural development, showing off many pieces of antique farm equipment that were once used by local farmers. There are also many exhibits related to pioneer life in the region, including a preserved log house from 1876 and a frame house from 1892.
